Exhibit Notes
Watercolor is my international language of response, complete and separate from the accent of place, the mysteries of another language. I make art about what's outside in the world, what's in the air and beneath my feet. My realism is a simplification of the immediate and the temporal. What draws me to a particular observation reveals itself as I focus the composition and discover the deep space of my painting, the psychological complexity of where I find myself. Although inspiration is plentiful, I am limited in size, surface, and time: light fades; weather changes; people pass. I am an unhurried observer of life and place, working on site in all kinds of weather.
