The inaugural exhibition of the new Gage Family Art Gallery in the Oren Gateway Center will feature more than 25 exquisite examples of Swedish glass on loan from the American Swedish Institute. For almost a century Swedish glass has been revered for its stylish, cutting edge design. This exhibition includes both traditional and contemporary artworks, ranging from classical examples by top designers for glasshouses (glasbruks) such as Kosta, Orrefors, Boda, Åfors and Strömbergshyttan to recent work by talented glass designers living in the Twin Cities.
On Friday, October 5, the College Art Gallery Collaborative will sponsor its annual Fall Art Tour, with free shuttles taking visitors to seven college art galleries around the Twin Cities. Also that evening, Andrea C. Blum and Warren K. Olson, local glass designers, collectors, and co-curators of Augsburg’s Swedish glass exhibition, will give a public talk at 7 p.m.
All events are free and open to the public.
