Mary Lingen graduated from Augsburg College with a B.A. in Studio Art in 1981 and she has been making art ever since. Lingen’s focus has long been the landscape, particularly scenes of dense forests and lush vegetations. With a background in classical piano, the artist likens her process of painting to that of composing music. Each artwork possesses its own harmonies and rhythms that develop during its creation. Just as trees and plants in a forest grow with and around one another to create a unique space, the shapes and strokes in Lingen’s oil paintings work together to construct a new vision each time.
Residing on ten acres of woodlands in central Minnesota, Lingen is inspired daily by her surroundings. “I am driven and highly motivated in nearly everything I do. In my art, my drive in a blessing. Every morning I wake up and start painting. It’s a way of life.” She is thrilled to return to Augsburg as an exhibiting artist to connect with the young artists and to share her drive and passion.
Lingen has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions including a recent solo show at the Gorecki Gallery in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Some other solo exhibits include: The Art Institutes International Minnesota, Thrivent Financial Gallery, North Country Museum of Art, and Luther College. She also received a grant from the Five Wings Art Council funded by the McKnight Foundation in 2000.
All events are free and open to the public.
