He Qi’s contemporary reinterpretations of biblical stories from a Chinese point of view are, on many levels, bold hybrids. Stylistically, his vibrant geometric compositions with their saturated colors conjure up references to medieval cloisonné reliquaries and stained glass windows, Picasso in his many periods, and different folk art traditions.
For over 20 years He Qi has devoted himself to making art that unites his personal embrace of the Christian faith with his cultural heritage. He has a doctorate in comparative religious art and was a professor at the Nanjing Union Theological Seminary in China before moving to the United States in 2004. His artwork has been exhibited all over the world, including Hong Kong, Toronto, and Hamburg.
All events are open to the public.
