"Experiential education programs, like those run by the Center for Global Education, make it possible for faculty members as well as students to see the world from a different perspective, and that is what will ultimately create more globally minded university students and a more global campus community."

Assistant Director,
Study Abroad & Exchange Programs, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona

“Each speaker was solid.  I’d never be able to experience meeting such powerful individuals on my own. You delivered a gold mine in terms of my own academic development!”

Faculty Development Seminars

The Center for Global Education is committed to providing opportunities for post-secondary faculty and administrators to gain first-hand experiences around issues of globalization in the countries where we work.  For over 15 years, we have designed seminars geared toward the professional development of educators.  In addition to the opportunity to share best practices for critically integrating global perspectives into their coursework, faculty and administrators have found these seminars invaluable vehicles for advancing campus discussions around international affairs.

Faculty are invited to participate in our yearly professional development seminars which take place every summer. Enrollment is open to all professional educators.

Themes rotate annually:

  • "Globalizing Women’s Studies: Pedagogy and Praxis." A Professional Development Seminar for Faculty, Staff and Graduate Students in Mexico, July 12-20, 2008 and will be repeated in 2011.

  • "Education for Global Citizenship,"  Nicaragua, June 20 – 28, 2009
  • "Education for Decolonization," Guatemala, June 26 – July 4, 2010 (tentative dates)

Colleges and universities are also welcome to customize their own seminar for members of their campus community. Similar to all of our customized travel seminars, customized faculty development seminars through the Center for Global Education design a program tailored to meet the specific needs of your institution.  By taking care of all planning logistics, we free up your faculty to concentrate on the experience itself and get the most out of their time away from campus.  If you are interested in exploring the possibility of designing a faculty development seminar around critical issues in globalization at your home campus, please contact us.
