Sample Itinerary
Short-term Travel Seminar to Vietnam
While each Center for Global Education travel
seminar is uniquely designed, the following is a representative
sample itinerary of a travel seminar to Vietnam. This sample
generally represents the types of encounters you would
experience on a trip, as well as the pace of the program. Each
trip’s actual itinerary will vary based on program focus,
length, timing and local events.
Day One
Morning Depart North America for Vietnam
Day Two
Late Evening Arrive in Hanoi. Transfer to hotel.
Day Three
8:00 am Breakfast
9:00 am Introductions, orientation, and overview of the program.
11:00 am Welcome by the Secretary General of the Vietnam-USA Society
12:30 pm Lunch
2:30 pm Driving tour of Hanoi with a visit to a bank to change money and
a walk through the Old Quarter with street market
4:30 pm Break at the hotel
6:30 pm Dinner
8:00 pm Walk
by Memorial at Truc Bach Lake where Senator John McCain was shot
down before being taken prisoner
Day Four
8:00 am Breakfast
9:30 am Presentation on history and culture of Vietnam by a professor
12:00 pm Visit pagodas at West Lake (Tran Quoc, Quan Thanh)
1:00 pm Lunch on your own in the West Lake area
3:00 pm Visit Temple of Literature
6:00 pm Dinner with reflection
Day Five
7:00 am Breakfast
8:30 am Tour
the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, presidential palace, and museum
12:30 pm Lunch
2:00 pm Meet
with the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Fund about efforts to clear
the countryside from unexploded bombs remaining from the war

with a peace activist from the US who worked both in North and
South Vietnam during the war
6:30 pm Dinner with the US peace activist and US war veteran

1:00 pm Lecture about the 29 minority groups in Vietnam with a staff
member and tour the Museum of Ethnology

11:30 am Drive to Cuc Phuong National Park with lunch en route

with Buddhist students (monks and a nun) at a pagoda to discuss
their work and life
11:00 am Visit Friendship Village to learn about
their work with veterans and children affected by Dioxin/Agent
Orange: Meet with Director, eat lunch, and visit to classrooms
and workshops
3:00 pm Visit to the National Hospital of Traditional
Medicine and meet with Director and others to discuss issues
related to health and HIV/AIDS

the Vietnamese government
