Associate Dean of
International Programs

Orval Gingerich is Associate Dean, International Programs and Director, Center for Global Education. Prior to coming to Augsburg College in 2001, Orv was Associate Dean, Director of Cross-Cultural Programs, and Associate Professor of Education at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU). He has initiated and led experiential study abroad semesters as part of EMU’s Global Village Curriculum. Orv has a M. Ed. in Experiential Education from the University of Colorado and an Ed. D. in Comparative and International Education from the University of Virginia. Orv has been involved in research and assessment on student learning outcomes from study abroad, and has more than 10 years experience teaching and leading wilderness experience courses.
Semester Programs Abroad
Margaret Anderson,
Coordinator, Semester Programs Abroad, has a BA in History from the
University of Minnesota, concentration in English history. Prior to working at CGE
she was employed by the Guthrie Theater, Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the
development department, and Date Recognition Corporation in Eden Prairie,
Minnesota. She joined CGE in February 1991 and has worked primarily with Semester Programs Abroad, but has also assisted with Mexico Travel Seminars and done Study Abroad Advising. At Augsburg she has also been active in Staff Senate, Peace Prize Forum, and the Strategic Planning Commission.
Dulce Oliva Monterrubio is the program assistant for semester programs abroad and started in March 2006. Dulce is not new to the Augsburg community. She is a graduate of Augsburg, coming as an international student from Mexico in 2000. She served as co-chair of the International Student Organization, and studied for a semester in Salamanca, Spain. Dulce has held several other posts at Augsburg, both as a student worker and a regular employee, including in the International Student Advisor’s office, the Enrollment and Financial Services Center, and as an Admissions Assistant at Weekend College. (Her first job at Augsburg was to drive the zamboni at the ice arena!). Dulce's most recent job has been as a Program Coordinator with International Programs at the University of St. Thomas. In Mexico Dulce worked with the Mexican Federation of YMCA's for three years as an International Representative, serving as a cross cultural experiences consultant, providing interpreting services, and developing lessons plans and training for volunteers in an exchange program between the YMCA of Mexico and the United Kingdom. This work included traveling to conferences in Mexico and the U.S. and consulting with other U.S. educational institutions.
International Travel Seminars
David Hamilton, Director, has a B.A. in political
science from Macalester College, an M.A. in African History from
the University of Minnesota, and a Mini-MBA from the University
of St. Thomas. He has years of experience in management and
administration, including being executive director of an
organization that works with HIV/AIDS. He has lived both in
Southern Africa and Brazil. He has been a grant writing
consultant, won a MacArthur Fellowship, and has a commitment to
social justice and racial equality.
Ann Butwell, Program Coordinator, was a co-coordinator
for the Center for Global Education's programs in El Salvador
from 1992-1994. She also helped to coordinate educational travel
programs for EPICA (Ecumenical Program on Central America and
the Caribbean), and previously worked with the Washington Office
on Latin America and Latin American Working Group. She has a
B.A. in Spanish from Berea College and an M.A. in Latin American
Studies from Tulane University.
Emerald Okumura is the
Program Associate, International Travel Seminars. She comes to the
Center from Global Citizens Network, where she was employed as an
assistant program coordinator. Her primary responsibility at GCN was overseeing trip logistic management of programs in over eight
countries as well as working with promotions and events for the
organization. Emerald graduated in 2004 with a BA in Global Studies from
the University of Minnesota. After graduation, she spent time interning
with the International Office at the Universidad de Playa Ancha in
Valparaiso, Chile.
Marketing

Regina McGoff, Associate Director of the Center for Global Education, has worked at Augsburg College since 1992. Prior to coming to the Center, she recruited youth to participate in study abroad programs with the President’s International Youth Exchange Initiative, taught languages through an accelerated learning methodology and worked with an international social service agency. Regina received her B.S. in Economics from the University of Minnesota and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas. She also studied developmental economics in Tunisia and completed a number of internships abroad with various organizations including Mobil Oil in Norway, the Public Transportation Bureau in the Netherlands, and Little Brothers of the Poor in France. Her extensive travels have taken her to Thailand, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and many other countries in Western Europe.
Yong Her, Marketing Assistant, was previously employed at Project 120 a youth development program which introduces High School level students to the inner workings of State government. She also worked at COMPAS, which cultivates cultural arts programs in the schools. She has been to Mexico, including an International Travel Seminar for Nursing Students. Yong is an artist in her spare time, and hopes to incorporate her experiences abroad into her art work. She enjoys international films, and learning about different cultures through artistic mediums.
Administrative
Fatimah
Panemalaythong,
Office Coordinator
for the Center's Minneapolis office. Fatimah has an Associate degree
in liberal arts from Black Hawk College where she was a member of the
International Student Association. She most recently worked at the
Highland Bank and previously worked at Carlson Craft. She speaks Thai,
Lao, and Indonesian, so has many administrative and cross-cultural
skills she shares.
