Crossing Borders: Gender and Social Change in Mesoamerica (Fall term)
Study the dynamics of social, economic, political and cultural change in Mexico and Central America with a focus on gender and women's perspectives. The program opens with a week-long orientation at the U.S.-Mexico border, and includes homestays, internships and independent research opportunities, intensive Spanish language instruction, and a two-week travel seminar to El Salvador.
International Business and Global Citizenship (Fall term)
Integrate academic work with direct learning experiences in the growing industrial and international business center of Cuernavaca, Mexico. The program offers Intensive Spanish language instruction, a course on international business in the global context, a four-week family stay, and an internship or independent study.
Migration and Globalization: Engaging our Communities (Spring term)
Explore issues of migration, immigration, and globalization. This is an ideal program for students who are interested in working with Spanish-speaking populations in the United States, as it includes intensive Spanish language classes, an internship or independent research opportunity, and courses that help students understand the connections between globalization and migration and learn from diverse communities that are organizing for positive social change around issues of race, ethnicity, socio-economic class, gender, sexuality, economics, and the environment.
Social Work in a Latin American Context (Spring term)
Created jointly by a collaboration of CSWE-accredited social work programs to satisfy the curriculum requirements for the BSW degree, this program aims to develop cross-culturally competent, ethical social work professionals with a global perspective by providing a semester of transformative, experiential learning focused on social and economic justice. In addition to intensive language instruction, the program includes family stays and the opportunity to fulfill a social work field placement requirement.
