Searching the Internet Assignment

Instructions: Type your name and date in the spaces provided. Next, perform the following operations. Please save and print-out your work. Type your answers to question #3, making sure to use college-level writing mechanics (estimated length, at least 1 typed page, double-spaced). Clearly label your answers. Please print this page and attach to your assignment.


  1. Using one of the search engines mentioned in this lesson, search for Internet sites that satisfy an interest of yours. Print-out the home page of your chosen search tool and the home page of at least one of your found sites.

  2. Choose one of the multiple-search-engines and compare its performance with the one you used in question #1. Print-out the home page of this second search tool and the home page of at least one of your found sites.

  3. How did your searching turn out?

    • What search term(s) did you use?
    • Why did you choose these terms? (i.e., what logic or tack were you trying to use?)
    • How successful was your search in narrowing your results and identifying "good" sites? Why or why not?
    • What terms might you have chosen that would have improved your searching? (Hint: look back into the lesson and re-read the discussion of Boolean Logic and search strategies.)
    • How did this activity assist you in better understanding the principles of successful searching?
