Publishing Web
Pages using your AugNet WWW folder
The WWW folder in your AugNet
space allows for easy web publishing. To place files on the WWW,
first access your WWW folder using any method described in detail at
the AugNet
Help page. Placing
properly formatted HTML and graphics (i.e., .gif and .jpg)
files into your WWW folder will automatically publish them to your
website. It's that's easy! ___
To publish correctly, your HTML files must be properly formatted
following common standards. For example, the home page must be named
'index.html' and you must use relative page references (these
standards and naming requirements are described in detail in the
lesson on how to create
your web site).
Once you have found your WWW folder, open it (double-click on it).
This will reveal its contents (if any).
As you can see in the example above, this web site contains six
items: five HTML pages and one JPEG graphic. The owner of this site
could view his or her web site by using any web browser and typing
their personal web site address. Use the following URL to view your
web site:
http://web.augsburg.edu/~username/
"~username" is your AugNet user name, for example, my username is "erickson," so my web site URL is:
http://web.augsburg.edu/~erickson/
Your website is public, accessible from any Internet-connected computer.
_Setting up Windows to use WebDav
to Access Your AugNet NetStorage Space (Accessing your AugNet
NetStorage space via WebDav is much better
than accessing it via a web browser. In order to install it, there's an
optional update you must download from Microsoft to install WebDav.
