Augsburg College offers licensure programs in learning disabilities (LD) and emotional and behavioral disabilities (EBD). Both programs are approved by the State of Minnesota Board of Teaching and accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. These programs lead to a license qualifying holders to teach in K-12 special education settings.
The program is based on an internship model and is geared toward students currently working as paraprofessional/educational assistants or as provisionally licensed teachers in EBD/LD settings. Students admitted to the program can continue to be employed by their district while completing their coursework and student teaching, allowing for coursework and experience to occur simultaneously. The program is feasible for students not currently working in LD/EBD settings, however there are additional field requirements for these students.
