Tim Pippert specializes in the areas of family, homelessness, stratification, juvenile delinquency and gender
Using a mix of quantitative and qu.alitative methodologies, Tim has examined areas such as the family ties of the homeless, street partnerships, the transition to parenthood, the division of household labor among never married adults, and the effectiveness of multimedia in large lecture halls. In 2007 he published his first book,
Road Dogs and Loners: Family Relationships Among Homeless Men.
His current project, in collaboration with his former student Edward Jay Matchett, involves the examination of how college and university represent the racial makeup of their student body in recruitment materials. Tim has presented his research at annual meetings of the American Sociological Association, the National Council of Family Relations, and the Midwest Sociological Society.
In addition to time spent on teaching and research, Tim devotes considerable attention to service. At the community level, Tim has served on the Dakota County Child Abuse Prevention Council. In service to his discipline, Tim has served as the president and treasurer of Sociologists of Minnesota and as chair of the Midwest Sociological Society Committee on Teaching and Learning. He currently serves on the Midwest Sociological Society’s Finance Committee and as the Central Faculty Representative to Sociologists of Minnesota. On the Augsburg campus, Tim has served two terms on the Student Standing Committee and continues to serve as the advisor for Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society.
He spends every moment of his free time exploring Minnesota with his wife, Angela, and their two daughters, Caroline and Isabelle.
