College Admissions: Applying to the Social Work Major

To be admitted to the BSW degree path you must first be admitted to the college, then you must declare the social work major. Declaring the major during the college application process or immediately after admission is an important step to getting a BSW degree. Below is information you will need to know before choosing the social work major.

Declaring the social work major:
Contact Academic Advising to change your major to social work.
(You can also change your major online through Inside Augsburg, "Records and Registration,"
"Student Info/Contacts" and under "Major Declarations," click Edit.)
Academic Advising will put you in touch with the Social Work Department.
You will be assigned a social work faculty adviser.
In the spring term of your sophomore year you will be invited to an orientation where you will receive an application form.
If you are a transfer student:
Be sure to let Admissions or Academic Advising know you want to major in social work.
Admissions or Academic Advising will put you in contact with the Social Work Department.
You will be assigned a social work faculty adviser.
You will meet with the BSW Program Assistant Director for an introduction to the department, after which you will receive an
application form if you have 52-64 semester hours credit in transfer
that translate into general education and BSW Supporting Program credit.
An orientation may be arranged for all transfer students who applied after the end of the school year.
