Applying for Liability Insurance While Applying to the Program
Students must have professional liability insurance coverage while at their practicum agency. Liability insurance can be obtained while applying to the program:
1)Join NASW, the National Association of Social Workers! They have an agreement with an insurance carrier, The American Professional Agency, to provide discounted liability insurance to their members. Membership is $48 for a year. A membership form is in the candidacy application packet.
2) Fill out your liability insurance form. There is a copy in your application packet or you can get an application online at: http://www.americanprofessional.com/student/B24870_SSL-1_APA.pdf. You need the Student Social Work application PLUS the Minnesota Resident form at http://www.americanprofessional.com/student/stu_genl165_mn.htm.
3) Return these forms to BSW Program Assistant Director to process your candidacy materials.
Total cost of coverage: NASW membership ($48) + Liability insurance ($23) = $71

- Fill out your contact and personal information
- You want the $23/1 million coverage level
- Your "Major" is Student-Social Work
- SELECT the "NASW pending membership" option
- Ask for immediate coverage (unless the Social Work Dept. gives you a date)
