Minor: Women's Studies
Why I chose Augsburg: I chose Augsburg because everything about it fit; small campus in a great city, challenging classes, and plenty of opportunities for adventure!
Fun facts:
Favorite things (I miss most about home): Tree frogs, gravel roads, the really dark skies at night, and hanging out with my parents.
Favorite things (that make being away from home OK): Having so many friends and resources all around me, the spongy feeling I get in my head after reading a textbook for three hours and feeling all the new knowledge absorbing into my brain tissue, my trumpet, and being able to claim such a beautiful city as my own.
What I do at Augsburg: Honor's Program, Concert Band, Jazz Band--Trumpet, History Society Co-President, Day Student Government Secretary. I work as a Tour Guide, Blogger, and Augsem Leader. Outside of Augsburg, I enjoy going to play grounds, working at my hometown radio station, and door knocking for local political campaigns.
Where I've been: Last winter I went on a History and Women's Studies trip to Nicaragua. There were about 13 of us, and we did lots of reading before we went. We spent most of our time in Managua, and we stayed just blocks away from President Daniel Ortega's house! We also got to visit a women run, organic coffee cooperative in the mountains, a sewing cooperative and clinic in Ciudad Sandino, and on our last day we swam in a volcanic lake! I have also been able to be a part of some great travelling with the Augsburg band and Jazz ensemble. My first year, the band spent 10 days in Romania, and this spring, we drove to Montana. With the Jazz band, I have gone all over the Twin Cities, and to Green Bay, Wisconsin. I plan to continue doing as much travelling as I can in my next two years.
