INTEGRATED TERM - Faculty

Picture of Lars Christiansen.Lars Christiansen teaches in the Department of Sociology and the Metro-Urban Studies program. In 2008, he received Augsburg\'s teaching award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Learning. The major theme in Lars scholarly work is to understand exceptions to the rule. Lars is interested in people, organizations, places, and events that are different from the norm. Here are just three questions Lars asks as a sociologist and teacher: Can cities be environmentally friendly? Can we imagine a city of bicycles rather than cars? Can we learn in school without grades? Lars is also a composer and guitarist in the Twin Cities music scene.

John Harkness is an Assistant Professor of English who has had a longstanding passion for ecological issues and concern for the long-term prospects for life on the planet. He teaches a wide variety of courses, particularly in early literature and on language. He studied Historical Linguistics at Harvard, and he is currently working on throwing some light on a long-untranslated text from sixth century B.C. Italy in an (as yet) unknown language. You may find him puttering in his garden on campus, biking down the Greenway, or walking here and there in his brown fedora.

Sarah Combellick-Bidney is an Assistant Professor in Political Science with interests in political activism.
