Laptops
I want to...
Introduction
Please exercise care when using the computers to prevent damage and ensure proper operation. Remember that you are responsible for anything checked out to you. In addition to normal circulation policies, laptop users are also subject to Augsburg's Responsible Use Policy for Computing & Network Resources. Your cooperation will help the continuation of this valuable service for all users.
The laptops can be used anywhere in the library, but cannot be taken out of the library . You can work on a paper, access the Internet, access AugNet, check your email, and print to any printer in the library. Let us know if any of our laptops are not functioning properly.

FAQ
- How do I check out a laptop?
- The procedures are very similar to checking out other materials. Simply ask at the Street Level Circulation Desk, and the workers there will assist you.
- Can my friend check out a laptop for me?
- No. The person who checks out the laptop is financially responsible for it. If it is broken or lost while checked out to you, you will be billed for it. The laptop fleet is paid for with student technology fees, so only current Augsburg students may use them.
- Are there times when all of the laptops are checked out?
- We have enough laptops to cover normal demand. There are exceptional
times, such as during mid-terms and finals, when all of them may be
in use. We cannot reserve them for you.
- How long can I keep the laptop?
- You can check it out for FOUR (4) hours. If you do not bring it back in time, the fine is $5.00 per hour. If demand is low that day, you may renew for four more hours. The four hour limit is strictly enforced at peak demand times.
- When I return my laptop, what is the check-in procedure?
- Make sure that you leave it with a student worker at the Street Level Circulation Desk. Do not leave it on the desk, hand it to a student worker! If you had any problems, make sure that you give the student worker all of the details you can about the problem,
- What else can I use with the laptop?
- You can check out headphones separately to listen to audio.
- Can I save my document?
- None of our laptops have floppy drives! You can save your document to your AugNet folder. If you save your document to the hard drive, it will be deleted the next time someone logs on.
- Can I surf the Internet?
- You have the same access to the network as anyone using computers in the Student Computing lab.
- Can I print my paper?
- There are printers on every level of the library to which you may print. If you have any problems, ask for help at the Student Computing desk on the Link Level.
- I need a laptop for a class presentation.
- The laptops available at the Circulation Desk cannot be taken out of the library. Your professor might be able to get a laptop from IT for you to use in the classroom, but he/she will need to make arrangements well ahead of time.
