Lilly Grant: Exploring Our Gifts
- PROGRAMS FOR FACULTY AND STAFF
Lectures:
Worship: The Community Conversation on Vocation
Campus Ministries holds monthly worship mini-convocations
during the academic year with themes oriented to vocation.
Vocation Forums
Speakers and experts on the topic of vocation will offer
their wisdom and experience to the
community through workshops and convocations. Special workshops are available
for faculty and staff. Watch the web site for dates and details.
Professional Development:
Vocation and the Christian Faith
A series of workshops through 2004-05 provide two
groups of approximately 15 faculty and staff with an introduction to the biblical
and theological implications of vocation. The groups meet for a three-day
workshop at the beginning of the summer, where they develop proposals
for how to incorporate vocation into their courses or work at the College.
These
proposals are presented in another workshop at the end of the summer, and
the groups meet periodically throughout the year to report on the progress
of the projects. Each participant receives a
stipend
of $1000 ($500 after attending the summer workshops and $500 upon completion
of the project). For more information, call Mark Tranvik at 612-330-1571.
Vocational Reflection and Renewal
In alternate years, faculty, staff, and students are invited to join in
a community conversation on vocation. The conversations, which provide
faculty and staff the opportunity for personal reflection on call and vocation,
are founded upon Parker Palmer’s Let Your Life Speak: Listening to
the Voice of Vocation. Book circles meet once a month, a series of seminars
are held in which speakers share their stories of vocation, and a
retreat
are held to allow for quiet reflection. Professor Ron Petrich facilitate,m
this project. Watch the web site for more details.
Exploration of Vocation in the International Community
The Office of International Programs (OIP) helps faculty develop or
revise courses with an international component. Funding is provided for
the development of courses or Augsburg Experiences at OIP’s 5
international sites, as well as locations around the world. For more
information, contact Andrea Wojtanowicz in Augsburg Abroad at
612-330-1669, or wojtanow@augsburg.edu.
Mentoring Programs:
Orientation Mentoring for New Faculty and Staff
Each year six faculty/staff mentoring teams are formed: to provide new faculty
and staff orientation to Augsburg’s mission, culture, and Lutheran model
of vocation; to promote the integration of new employees into the larger College
community; to develop a clear understanding of the College’s identity;
and to foster a work culture that is attentive to each person’s sense
of
vocation. Each team, consists of 2 new faculty, 2 new staff, and
2
experienced team leaders, begins their work in the fall at an orientation
kick-off dinner and then meets monthly throughout the year. For more information
or to become involved, contact Patricia Fenrick at 612-330-1334.
Vocation Mentoring Teams
Campus Ministries and the Center for Service Work and Learning, sponsor mentoring
groups that include students (primarily sophomores, juniors,
and seniors), faculty and staff, and alumni. Each year, the group participants
commit to a year-long experience, including monthly workshops, one-on-one
meetings, and retreats, which encourage alumni and students to explore
how to live life and pursue a career with faith. Call Ross Murray at 612-330-1151
for more details and watch the web site for news.
Mentoring in Spiritual Disciplines
During this year-long project, 20 students, faculty, and staff are trained
in spiritual practices that help them to develop the ability to stop,
reflect,
and listen to God. After choosing and committing to one or two spiritual exercises
most useful to him/her, each participant can strengthen his/her personal reflection
and search for God’s call in a silent retreat and with monthly meetings
in a small group. Call Brad Holt at 612-330-1611 for more details and
watch the web site for news.
