Welcome to Ken Kaminsky’s home page!

I have a B. A. in Mathematics and an M. S. and Ph. D. in Applied and Mathematical Statistics from Rutgers University. I have been a faculty member at Rutgers University, Bucknell University, Syracuse University, SUNY Oswego, University of Umeå (Sweden), St. Olaf College, and, finally, at Augsburg (1987-present). My wife, Amy, is a Professor of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Minnesota’s Twin Cities campus. We have two children. Jonathan is 29, a 2000 graduate of Macalester College, and a 2006 graduate in Journalism at the University of California at Berkeley. David, a 1996 graduate of Macalester College, is 32 with a Ph.D. in 2005 in Ethnomusicology from Harvard University.

Courses I will be teaching this fall:
MAT 163—Introduction to Statistics
MAT 245—Calculus III
MAT 373—Probability and Mathematical Statistics I

Here is some of what I do around here:
  • I am the editor of Augarithms, the bi-weekly newsletter of the Department of Mathematics.
  • I am Augsburg's liaison to Professor Freddie Fogelfroe of ValuePak™ University, in Margo's Forehead, Minnesota.
  • My book, Financial Literacy: Introduction to the Mathematics of Interest, Annuities, and Insurance, is available in the bookstore, online, or from University Press of America.

Kaminsky’s non-mathematical passions include table tennis, music, movies, eating out, photography, studying languages, his recumbent bicycle, and his motor scooter.
