Preparing to Teach Mathematics

Please note that the information on this page pertains only to students entering Augsburg in Fall 2003 or later.

Students at Augsburg College can prepare to teach Mathematics in grades K-12 through either Secondary or Elementary licensure. Students seeking licensure should work closely with faculty advisors in both the Mathematics department and Education department.

For licensure in grades 5-12, a Mathematics major (with specified electives) plus Secondary Education courses are required. For licensure in grades K-8, an Elementary Education major plus Mathematics concentration courses are required.

For advising on elementary education, contact Professor Tracy Bibelnieks, bibelnie@augsburg.edu, 612-330-1335.

For advising on elementary education with 5-8 specialization in mathematics, or for advising on secondary education in mathematics, contact Professor Matthew Haines, haines@augsburg.edu, 612-330-1050.

A handout with requirements and sample programs for middle school and secondary education licensure is available as a PDF document (60 KB).
