Treble Festival

2013 marks the eleventh year for the Augsburg Treble Festival. Providing an opportunity for high school singers to spend time on the Augsburg campus and experience an afternoon of choral music is a high priority of the music department. The collaboration of high school and college women’s choirs is a very rewarding experience. Everyone loves the beautiful sound of a large treble choir, and participants often experience unique repertoire suited only to women’s voices. We would love to see some of these singers return to Augsburg as future students!

Nancy Grundahl is a conductor, composer, and soloist and holds vocal performance degrees from St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota. In addition to her position with the Riverside Singers of Augsburg College, she is the conductor of the Angelica Cantanti Concert Choir, a youth choir based in Bloomington, Minn., and is the Director of Music at Mayflower U.C.C. in Minneapolis. Her arrangements and compositions for solo voice and choirs have been published by Kjos, Hal Leonard, Augsburg Fortress, Alliance, and Santa Barbara music publishers. She has conducted several honor choirs throughout the upper Midwest, and is active as an adjudicator, clinician, soloist, and guest conductor.

The Riverside Singers of Augsburg College The Riverside Singers carry on the long tradition of treble choirs at Augsburg College. The singers participate with other Augsburg musical organizations in Advent Vespers each Christmas season at Central Lutheran Church. Another anticipated event is the annual WomanVoice concert in March or April when college women’s choirs from around the area join hearts and voices to sing music by, for, and about women. Participating in chapel services several times during the year is an important part of the mission of the choir, as is hosting an invitational treble choir festival in the fall of the year.

The choir rehearses for an hour, three times a week, and is made up mostly of first year students, plus several returning upperclass women. Other vocal ensembles at Augsburg include The Augsburg Choir, the Cedar Singers (men’s chorus), Masterworks Chorale, and Gospel Praise, plus chamber groups and student-directed a cappella groups.
