Music Therapy

Music Therapy fulfills the academic and clinical requirements for eligibility to take the Music Therapy Board Certification Examination. The B.S. in music therapy is minimally a four-and-one-half-year degree program, which includes a full-time (six months or 1,040 hours) internship in a clinical facility approved by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). This course of study is chosen by students who wish to become professional music therapists.The music therapy equivalency program is available to students who already have a bachelor’s degree and wish to meet the requirements set by the American Music Therapy Association to become professional music therapists. This equivalency program prepares students for eligibility to take the Music Therapy Board Certification Examination. Depending upon the student’s degree and skill level, individual requirements will be outlined by the director of music therapy. There is a minimum two-year residency requirement, which includes participation in a major ensemble for four terms and successful completion of a two-year music theory equivalency test.
