Advent Vespers

The popular Advent Vespers, presented by Augsburg College for the 19th year, will be on December 4-5 at 5 and 8 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church, 333 S. 12th Street, Minneapolis.

Advent Vespers, which attracts thousands, celebrates the Advent and the Christmas season with music, readings and congregational participation through singing and response.

The theme is "And on Earth, Peace." Selections include several choruses from Handel's "Messiah"; a Swedish based folk tune from Dalarna, "Bereden väg för Herran"; and music from "Amahl and the Night Visitors." The 100-voice Masterworks Chorale, the Riverside Singers and Vespers Orchestra will all perform in surround sound, with music from the front, back and sides.
