Augsburg College

Augsburg Now: Distinguished Alumnus Jeroy Carlson

Fall 1998, Vol. 61, No. 1

Jeroy Carlson

Jeroy Carlson, known as Mr. Augsburg to many people in the Augsburg Community, has served the College over many years as a staff person, supporter and top fundraiser.

Carlson was an active student athlete. He was on the basketball and baseball team and was an all conference selection in both sports; in 1978 he was inducted into the Augsburg College Athletic Hall of Fame. After graduating in 1948, he coached at Hendricks, Belle Plaine and Cannon Falls, Minnesota, returning to Augsburg some 20 years later as a full-time employee.

For the past 35 years, he has been involved with the public relations, development and alumni relations departments. He has overseen countless projects, brought various ideas to building projects and helped program after program succeed. Upon his retirement in 1991, the alumni and parent relations' house was named the Jeroy C. Carlson Alumni Center in his honor.

He has been by far one of the most successful fundraisers for Augsburg. He led the way to the Anderson-Nelson field, which was completed in 1984. New offices, a fitness center, a training room and a press box were all added to the athletic department as a direct result of Carlson's efforts. He also took the initiative to secure the last $4 million to complete the funding for the new Lindell Library.

Jeroy and his wife, Lorraine, also volunteer their time to DART (Dakota Area Resources and Transportation for Seniors), Christ the King Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, and his church in Florida.
