Fall 1998, Vol. 61, No. 1 Ether-quakes in dormitories foreshadow changes in Library-IT There's been a lot of shakin' going on in the Urness and Mortensen Tower dormitories while the concrete floors get drilled to provide direct Ethernet (which will allow students to connect with the College's computer networking system) to each and every student housed in these facilities. Students will be able to access online library reference sources, course materials posted on the network by faculty and materials shared among students for research papers. Another ground-shaker is the expansion of the fleet of laptop computers available for use in the Lindell Family Library. Over 70 (up from 30) laptops, both Macs and PCs, will be available for checkout and can be used almost anywhere in the Lindell Library, enabling students to work individually or collaboratively in small groups. These changes are only part of the broader plan to incorporate new technological advances on campus. This article was excerpted from the Augsburg Now. |
