Fall 1998, Vol. 61, No. 1 James G. Lindell James Lindell has been a major benefactor of Augsburg College for 50 years in both word and deed. He has served as a regent, been active in the Alumni Board and has generously supported numerous building projects, including the ice arena, art galleries, student housing and building projects. Seven members of his family have attended Augsburg; in 1997, their family name was given to the new library through generous support of Lindell and his wife, Jean. He attended the College in 1942-43, prior to entering the Navy during World War II. Afterwards he started a career at West Publishing Company in St. Paul as an entry-level accountant and retired 44 years later as the vice president-chief financial officer and a member of the board of directors. He was instrumental in the transformation of the company from being a law book publisher to becoming an information provider. James and Jean Lindell have been actively involved in many civic projects, including a new Boy Scouts camp in Wisconsin, new physical fitness centers, little league baseball fields, an active education foundation that assists with college scholarships and a special burn treatment center at Regions Hospital. |
