Fall 1998, Vol. 61, No. 1 David K. Steenson David Steenson graduated from Augsburg in 1963 with a degree in sociology. He began his career as a probation officer for Hennepin County, and his willingness to take risks and implement innovative ideas has touched the lives of many people during his tenure. In 1978, Steenson applied for a grant to set up a program in juvenile restitution for Hennepin County. This grant covered the cost of the program for three years. Under Steenson's leadership, the Hennepin County Juvenile Restitution Program became not only proved itself during the three-year grant, but is one of the largest and most respected in the nation. Dave Steenson continues to be an inspiration for other restitution programs, speaking at conferences across the nation. Steenson and his wife, Karen (Henry) '64, are active in their church and school district. He has been a member of the Richfield School Board and hosts "Spartan View," a public access cable television show that features faculty, staff and students of Richfield Public Schools. Steenson, along with his wife Karen, is a leader in his church, volunteering in everything from choir to children's sermons. In many ways, Steenson has been an informal "ambassador" for Augsburg over the years. He has promoted Augsburg through his job and lived Augsburg's motto of leadership through service. He has served as president of the Alumni Board and has also been active in the Alumni Association. |
