Augsburg Now: Tattoo 2000 BCE - 2000 CE

Fall 1998, Vol. 61, No. 1

Tattoo 2000 B.C.E. - 2000 C.E. - marking the human body

Discover the ancient art of tattoos at this unique art exhibit in the Alumni Gallery at Augsburg College, September 18 to October 22, 1998.

Marking the body is as ancient as humankind. The oldest tattoo was discovered on the mummified remains of Amuet, priestess of Hathor at Thebes in 2000 B.C.E. And with the coming millennium, the gallery will celebrate the art's 4,000th birthday with live models, a tattoo booth, tattoo demonstrations, antique drawings and equipment.

The exhibition will feature internationally-known tattooists Don Nolan, Mike Malone and Shahn Anderson. Also represented will be Minnesota tattooists Adam Ciferri, Tom and Candi Genereux, Daniel Lowell and Nick Skrade.

Contact Cathy Peters at (612) 330-1524 for more information.
