Augsburg Now: Litany of Vision

Winter 1998, Vol. 60, No. 2

Litany of Vision, Oct. 11, 1997

Read by Philip Quanbeck Sr. '50, Distinguished Alumnus, Professor of Religion

Guiding Spirit, give us new visions of faith for the 21st century, with the courage to dream dreams, welcome visions, and soar on eagle's wings.

Bring us together in spirit and vision, O God.

Teach us to see new technologies, exploding stores of knowledge, and new ways of learning as your good gifts, discovered through the intelligence with which you have blessed your creatures, holding infinite possibilities for good.

Bring us together in spirit and vision, O God.

Call this school and all in the Augsburg community to renewed vocation. Make Augsburg a model of lives filled with meaningful, useful work, faithful and loving relationships, healthy bodies and lively minds enriched by knowledge of where we are in time and space, by arts and science, by theology and mystery.

Bring us together in spirit and vision, O God.

Hold us in our vision of diversity. Show us what we truly have in common. Keep us from division over our differences and from insisting on false conformities.

Bring us together in spirit and vision, O God.

Give us glimpses of the joy and beauty of the New Jerusalem in our city. Let us see your creative hand in the astonishing variety of people you have brought here. Teach us that art and architecture, commerce and government, and medicine and recreation can also be manifestations of your ongoing creative power, through the minds and hearts of your people.

Bring us together in spirit and vision, O God.

Strengthen your servant, William Frame, as he leads Augsburg. Give him clear vision, articulate energy, courage, wisdom, humility, and the abiding faith to know that he is not alone.
