A reporter in the January 12, 1955, Echo, wrote:
"Behind the brick walls and canvas-covered windows, the intriguing
noise and bustle, and the even more intriguing silences, workmen have been
steadily going about their business of getting the new library completed.
"The exterior of the library is now complete, except for the windows,
which will be installed soon. In the basement, partitions are in place,
and plastering, plumbing, heating and wiring are almost completed. The building
will be ready in April."
In September of that year, when the Sverdrup Library opened its doors,
the Echo recapped its earlier report by stating:
"Light, color, and air are usually the first impressions of a person
walking into the new library. A red circulation desk and blond furniture
and woodwork set against yellow walls,
a gray floor, and rows of large windows
on each side are responsible for the impression.
