Born of an immigrant father and with a strong Norwegian heritage,
Linda gained a continuing interest in the importance of a person’s
cultural background. She earned her B.S.N. at the University of
Minnesota and then pursued clinical experience in maternity and
medical-surgical nursing in addition to community health nursing.
Several years after earning her B.S.N., she and her husband took
their toddler son to Nigeria, where they lived for the better part
of a decade.
After returning to the States, Linda struggled through re-entry
shock and then, instead of acute care nursing, became involved in
community development at a neighborhood level. She was introduced
to transcultural nursing in connection with a visit to the Augsburg
Central Nursing Center. Deeply moved, she was determined to return
to school to learn more about this field of nursing. Because Augsburg
did not yet have an approved program, she and her husband moved
temporarily to Seattle, where she pursued a master’s degree
in community health nursing with a cross-cultural focus. She is
now certified in transcultural nursing.
