Private College Scholars at the Capitol

Join us on Thursday, February 25, 2010, for the Seventh Annual Private College Scholars at the Capitol. This event has now attracted the attention of corporate donors and is vitally important to maintaining the public presence of Minnesota’s liberal arts colleges and universities. Each college selects and sends its own students and posters, and we depend on local on-campus contact persons to send our state’s very best undergraduate student scholars/researchers. The Minnesota Private College Council is a primary sponsor of this event, which is organized by statewide committee of faculty.

In 2009, twenty-three students from thirteen colleges and their faculty advisors presented posters describing their research on: describing their research on: underwater robotics; mosque communities in the Midwest; genetic variation between populations of mussels above and below the St. Croix Falls Dam; Prairie Island Dakota oral history; role models and their influence of self-objectification in college women; grassland bird diversity in native versus planted grasslands in rural Northwestern Minnesota ; testing for HPV-18 E6 mRNA in human breast cancer cell lines; public law and tribal sovereignty in Minnesota; place-making and transit-justice issues in the Metro Transit Bus System; and many other topics.

Please join us in this landmark event to celebrate the research and scholarly excellence of our Minnesota undergraduate students. Their research has already contributed greatly to the quality of life in our state.
