We are inviting your school or group to participate in the 13th annual Nobel Peace Prize Festival.
The Festival will be held at Augsburg College in Minneapolis on Thursday, Mar. 6, 2008 from
11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., and will honor the 2006 recipients: Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank
(Bangladesh). Norwegian Nobel Committee decided to award the prize to them for their efforts through
microcredit to create economic and social development from below.
The Festival is designed to connect students in grades 1 -12 who first study the work of a Nobel
Peace Prize recipient(s); then create a related interactive exhibit, art or performance to showcase their
learning of the life and accomplishments of their adopted Laureate. The one-day Festival gives students
the opportunity to share their projects with the other participating students, as well as the invited
dignitaries and other interested adults. The honored Nobel Laureate and the Director of the Norwegian
Nobel Institute have been invited and their attendance is pending confirmation. This event is free and
open to the public. In years past there have been an average of 30 schools and over 1,000 people attend.
Attached you will find the Application for Participation and the list of Nobel Peace Prize
Laureates. Please fill out the application either online or return it by fax or postal mail listed at the end of
the application form as soon as possible. Due to anticipated heavy response this year, reservations for
participation and Laureate assignments will be given on a first come/first served basis, with the preferred
closing date of December 20, 2007.
The Festival also coincides annually with the Nobel Peace Prize Forum held at one of the five
Norwegian-affiliated colleges in the area. This year the Forum will be held March 7-8, 2008 at Concordia
College in Moorhead, Minnesota. This year, the Forum’s theme is "Striving for Peace: Investing in
Community" and will honor the work of 2006 Nobel Laureates Dr. Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen
Bank (Bangladesh). The Forum website is: http://www.cord.edu/dept/news/events/ppf/yunus.php
We look forward to working together with your group to create the best Festival ever!
