Augsburg College

William H Jasperson
Instructor, Senior Research Scientist
jaspers@augsburg.edu

In addition to teaching, Bill Jasperson has worked on several contracts and grants while working at Augsburg College. Most recently he has worked with colleagues in the department developing hands-on inquiry-based computer programs for informal science settings on weather/climate topics. This NSF (National Science Foundation) funded project was a cooperative program between Augsburg College and the Science Museum of Minnesota, where the programs are exhibits in the weather area of the Experiment Gallery. These programs are also used by students who take the meteorology course offered in the physics department.

He has always liked meteorology – the weather and recording data. Besides the weather, he’s also interested in business and has taught computer, statistics, and finance courses in the business department at Augsburg. His 17 plus years at Control Data help him bring a lot of “real world” experiences to his courses.

“I believe what you take away from a course is dependent on what you put into it. Getting an “A” in his courses can sometimes be challenging, but “students who get an “A” often will have learned a lot and put forth a strong effort.” He takes his teaching seriously and works hard to do a good job. For him, seeing that moment when “the light bulb turns on” for a student is extremely rewarding.
