Psi Chi



Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology. Membership in Psi Chi not only recognizes your scholastic achievement and interest in psychology, but also recognizes your educational training as well. The purposes of Psi Chi are to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship and to advance the science of psychology.

Psi Chi offers a range of local, regional, and national programs. At the regional level, Psi Chi sponsors conventions in conjunction with the annual Midwestern Psychological Association conference in Chicago. The national organization holds a convention in conjunction with the American Psychological Association, sponsors undergraduate and graduate research award programs, and publishes a quarterly newsletter. Membership in Psi Chi has a one-time only fee of $35; there are no annual dues.

Students who wish to join Psi Chi must meet the requirements listed below:

  • Completion of five semester courses in Psychology
  • Two of these must be from Augsburg
  • Two of these must be at the 300 course level or above
  • Registration for major or minor standing in Psychology
  • Junior or senior class standing
  • Rank in the upper 35 percent of class in general scholarship (overall GPA)
  • Average grade of 3.25 or better in Psychology coursework
  • Achievement of a grade of 3.0 or better in either PSY 215 or PSY 315
  • High standards of personal behavior, and
  • Two-thirds affirmative vote of those present at a regular meeting of the chapter
