Augsburg Students Tour the Psychogenetics Lab
at the Mayo Clinic

Dr. Rick Seime (Augsburg '70) of the Mayo Clinic's Department of Psychiatry and Psychology, recently hosted a study tour for a class of 14 Augsburg Psychology students. The day included a tour of Mayo's new Psychogenetics Laboratory and the Neuropsychiatry Evaluation Center. In the Behavioral Health Unit, students learned about and discussed several clinical topics with Mayo researchers: The role of exercise in treatment of depression; Tobacco use and treatment intervention among Alaskan natives; and treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders. Many post-doctoral fellows provided participants with information and advice regarding career and graduate school opportunities and joined the students for dinner. Contributors to the day's program included Augsburg Science Advisory Board Members - Dr. Seime and Christie Patten, Ph.D. (Augsburg '85) - and Augsburg Regent Ruth E. Johnson, M.D. Students are members of Dr. Nancy Steblay's Advanced Research Seminar. The Mayo tour is part of a collaborative effort between Augsburg science faculty and the Science Advisory Board.
