Responsible for the overall functioning of the residence halls, the director typically has a strong background in Residence Life and holds a Master's degree in the study of Higher Education or Student Affairs. This entails working with faculty, staff and students to create a housing program that fosters the leadership for the accomplishment of current goals, planning for the future, and working cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff throughout the college community.
The housing specialist reports directly to the director of residence life and supports the director with operational management of college residence halls, assumes coordination of housing services and contracts, marketing the residential spaces, and communicating with new and residential students as well as other departments.
Shares in overseeing the program (transition, retention, maturation) involved with our students. A hall director typically has a strong background in student life and may hold or is studying for a Master's degree in the fields of human development, higher education, or social sciences. These individuals work closely with staff, faculty and students in creating programs, offering academic and personal support/counseling, advising residence hall associations and conducting discipline hearings.
