Welcome from the Residence Hall Directors
As Residence Hall Directors, we are excited to welcome you for what will be a wonderful year. We have plans for lots of exciting things this year, and a great team of RAs, CAs, FCs, and SPCs to serve our community.
On the topic of community, the Department of Residence Life is now on Facebook! Search for the "Augsburg College Department of Residence Life" and become a fan to access to important information, fun pictures, and the operations calendar. This fall, you'll be seeing the same great Residence Hall Directors, but in new communities. Here is the Residence Hall Director structure starting fall 2009.

Emergency Contact Information
In order to pick up your keys, you must have completed the online Emergency Contact Information form. You can find it at reslifeforms.augsburg.edu.
Completion of this form is required for all students living on campus. The information entered on this form will aid the college in providing assistance in the event of an emergency. All information is private and is used solely by the Augsburg College administrative staff.
Please have the following information ready when you fill out the form:
- Home address,
- Cell phone number, and
- Emergency contact information.
Residence Life Guidebook
The Residence Life Guidebook has been revised for the 2009-2010 year. Please take some time to look over our residence hall and campus policies and procedures. They can be found at: www.augsburg.edu/reslife/guidebook and www.augsburg.edu/studentguide.
What to Bring and What to Leave at Home
What to Bring
- Alarm clock
- Radio
- Desk lamp
- Waste basket
- Bucket or basket to carry toiletries
- Storage crates
- UL approved multiple outlet strips (with circuit breaker)
- Towels
- Pillow
- Extra long bed sheets (36" x 80")
- Shower sandals
- Fridges 5 cubic feet or less
- Telephone (except Oren Gateway residents will have a digital telephone provided)
To make your room your home away from home, consider bringing posters, pictures, decorations, and favorites from your bedroom. Other optional items include a stereo, computer, TV, DVD player, video games, and coffee maker.
What to Leave at Home
To prevent injuries, fires, and loss of property and lives, you may not use or store the following items in the residence hall:
- Freezers
- Fridges larger than 5 cubic feet
- Flammable fluids
- Incense
- Pets
- Candles
- Potpourri pots with an open flame
- Grills
- Hot plates
- Pizza ovens
- Air conditioners
- Firearms
- Ammunition
- Illegal weapons
- Fireworks, firecrackers, or bottle rockets
- Hunting items
- Explosive devices
- Halogen lamps
Appliances must have enclosed heating elements and have the underwriter's laboratory approval. The College reserves the right to, and will, remove unauthorized or dangerous electrical appliances, lighting, or items.
H1N1 Flu Information
Like all colleges and universities, we are thoughtfully monitoring the situation and getting guidance from World Health Organization (WHO), Center for Disease Control (CDC), and the Minnesota Department of Health. We will encourage flu vaccines if/as they come available, including hosting a flu shot clinic on campus if we can. We will prepare and implement steps as the situation changes. We will also remind campus community members on good health practices and make sure to keep people informed.

Laundry Facilities
Laundry facilities are provided by Coinmach Corporation. Laundry facilities are located in each building and are available 24 hours a day. The machines are $1 per load to wash and $1 per load to dry. The If you are new to living on campus, you will be provided with a laundry card to which you can add money to use the laundry facilities. Replacement cards are $5.
Cable
To access you basic cable, bring a TV set and a standard coax video cable. For basic service problems, contact Comast Cable at (800) COMCAST and follow the prompt. You are responsible for being available to escort the Comcast representative to your apartment during your scheduled time.
When calling Comcast Cable, remind them that Augsburg has a commercial contract. You can contact Comcast for any extended services beyond basic cable.
Personal Property and Renters Insurance
Augsburg College is not responsible for lost/stolen/damaged personal property. We encourage residents to have homeowner's/renter's insurance or make sure they are covered under their parents' policy.
