Intern with Campus Kitchen

Overview

The Campus Kitchen at Augsburg College (CKAC) is a groundbreaking program that brings together student volunteers, on-campus dining services professionals, and community organizations to combat hunger in Minneapolis. CKAC coordinates food donations, prepares and delivers meals to area community service agencies, teaches nutrition and culinary skills to local youth, and provides service learning opportunities for students.

Roles and Responsibilities
The CKAC Operations Intern will:

  • Manage at least one shift per week or more as needed
  • Be responsible for overseeing kitchen management and food resourcing.
  • Coordinate safe intake from all food donors.
  • Conduct training and orientation for new Campus Kitchen volunteers.
  • Coordinate many of the monthly reporting tasks and administrative duties of running our organization
  • Oversee food safety (HACCP) systems of all shift managers to make sure we’re doing a top-notch safety, sanitation, and quality job
  • Create greater awareness of CKAC in the public
  • Create and implement one special project over the course of the term
  • Complete at least 9-10 hours per week to equal 150 hours for the semester.

Compensation

Compensation
Interns will be provided one of two options:
1) academic credit for their internship work
2) $1,000 stipend given in two separate installments

Job Requirements
To be eligible to be a CKAC intern, an Intern must:

  • Possess a current Driver’s License
  • Be confident and willing to work with people from different educational backgrounds
  • Commit to scheduled hours throughout the week
  • Be comfortable working with youth and adults
  • Be organized and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Possess some basic knowledge of cooking (will train in additional culinary skills)
  • Possess leadership skills in order to manage groups of 5-10 volunteers
  • Experience volunteering with the Campus Kitchen is advantageous
