Sociology majors are highly active and engaged beyond the classroom, whether it is with student organizations or hands-on research and community engagement opportunities. All of these activities—together with classroom experiences—prepare our future alums for exciting and meaningful careers.

In this section, you can learn more about career opportunities for sociology majors, our international honor society Alpha Kappa Delta, and Augsburg’s own club for sociology and urban studies. In addition, check out what our Torstenson Community Scholars are up to and find out more about funded research opportunities available through the McNair Scholars Program and URGO (Undergraduate Research and Graduate Opportunities). We have a long and successful history of students working closely with faculty on research projects through these different programs.

Finally, Augsburg often hosts nationally recognized sociologists, such as Elijah Anderson, who spoke at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum hosted by Augsburg University, and Matthew Desmond, whose book Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City won the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction in 2017.
