Augsburg College

Timothy D Pippert
Assistant Professor
pippert@augsburg.edu

Tim Pippert specializes in the areas of family, homelessness, stratification, gender, and instructional technology.

Using a mix of quantitative and qualitative methodologies, Tim has examined areas such as the family ties of the homeless, street partnerships, the transition to parenthood, the division of household labor among never married adults, and the effectiveness of multimedia in large lecture halls. His most recent project examined the family relationships available to homeless men.

Tim has presented his research at annual meetings of the American Sociological Association, the National Council of Family Relations, and the Midwest Sociological Society. His research has been awarded with the University of Nebraska Presidential Fellowship and the Alan Booth Graduate Research Award. The American Association also honored him with the 1999 K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award for Higher Education for his volunteer efforts with the homeless community.

In addition to time spent on teaching and research, Tim serves as a mentor for the Preparing Future Faculty Program, which allows him to expose aspiring professors to the strengths of liberal arts colleges. Tim is also the treasurer and President-Elect of Sociologists of Minnesota. On the Augsburg campus, Tim serves as the co-advisor for Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society.
