The 2012-2013 Financial Aid Application Instructions

The process to apply for financial aid has undergone a significant improvement, designed to make it easier and more secure for our students. The FAFSA now offers the "IRS Data Match Tool" allowing students to simply pre-populate their tax information on the FAFSA-eliminating the need to enter tax information manually. This process will also eliminate the need for most students to have to turn in additional documents such as the Augsburg Aid form and their Federal1040 tax form.

Steps and Deadlines to Apply for Financial Aid- Fall 2012-Spring 2013

  1. File your federal taxes electronically. Students who do not file taxes or are married but file their taxes separately, will be unable to use the IRS Data Match Tool. Please file your FAFSA as you normally would in the past.
  2. Wait two weeks after filing your taxes to allow the IRS to update your information and then complete your FAFSA online, using the IRS Data Match process.

Students who are selected for verification by the Department of Education will be informed via email or mail.*

Current Students Only: We are encouraging students to complete their 2012-2013 FAFSA by May 1, 2012. However, there is no penalty as long as you complete your FAFSA prior to when you start your classes.

*For students who are selected for verification: Please submit a copy of your 2011 Federal 1040 tax transcript and the 2012-2013 Augsburg Aid form (coming soon!).
