Students at Augsburg College are obligated to pay Term Fees and additional charges when they register for each academic term. “Term Fees” include tuition, room and board charges and other fees initiated during your time as a student. Students are responsible to pay for all of these charges regardless of whether financial aid is received or employers or other third parties pay as agreed. “Term Fees” are subject to refund only to the extent allowed under the Augsburg College Tuition Refund Policy.
Augsburg accepts the following forms of payment:
Students and guest payers may make cash payments in-person at the Enrollment Center. Cash should never be mailed. Students will receive a receipt of their cash payment.
Students and guest payers may pay their term fees via check either in-person at the Enrollment Center, through mail, or online using e-check/ACH. A $30 NSF Fee will be added for any payment returned by the bank for Non-Sufficient Funds. A receipt will automatically be sent electronically for any online payments. Students who pay in-person or through mail may request a receipt of the check payment.
Credit Card/Debit Card
Students and guest payers may make student account payments online with a Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express credit card. As of June 10th, 2016, Augsburg will no longer accept credit card or debit card payments in-person, over the phone, or through the mail. Credit cards will only be accepted online via Cashnet, a vendor contracted by Augsburg.
Because Cashnet charges Augsburg for their services, a credit card service fee of 2.75 percent will be associated with any domestic credit card payment made to the college. International credit cards will charge a credit card service fee of 4.25 percent. This is to offset the approximately $250,000 in costs that Augsburg accrues annually for providing credit card payment options to our students. Augsburg will not receive any part of the service fee and will not be profiting from it.
Credit Card/Debt Card FAQ
Which credit cards are accepted?
Students and guest payers may make student account payments online with a Visa, MasterCard, DISCOVER, or American Express credit card.
Can I pay with a debit card?
Yes, you may pay with a Visa, MasterCard, DISCOVER, or American Express debit card. However, you will be required to pay a separate, non-refundable service fee of 2.75 percent (4.25 percent for international cards) of the payment amount at the time of each debit card payment. You can avoid the service fee by using e-check or ACH instead to make a payment. Select the online e-check payment option and enter your bank routing and account number (available from your banking institution or your monthly bank statement).
Why is the University assessing a 2.75 percent service fee to pay with a credit card?
Credit cards are being accepted by Cashnet, a vendor contracted by Augsburg that is charging a fee for their service. The 2.75 percent rate (4.25 percent for international cards) is based on the payment amount for each transaction and was determined by the vendor. Augsburg will not receive any part of the service fee.
Is the service fee refundable?
The service fee is non-refundable. Any service fee disputes must be taken directly to your credit card company.
Can I pay with a credit card in person or over the phone?
No. Credit card payment is available only as an online service. Augsburg does not accept credit card payments through the mail, in-person, or over the phone.
What happens if I make a mistake when I enter my credit card information online?
If a credit card number or other personal information is entered that is inconsistent with your credit card account, the payment will be rejected immediately.
How will I know if my payment is approved?
Credit card payments will be instantly approved and an online receipt will be issued to you.
Why can’t I see the service fee on my student account?
The service fee is assessed by Cashnet, our vendor, not Augsburg, so it will not appear on your Augsburg student account. However, the service fee will appear as a separate fee on your (or your payer’s) credit card statement.
Can I use a credit card check or investment account to pay online?
No. Credit card check accounts or investment account checks, commonly called credit card convenience checks or advance checks, cannot be used for electronic payment.
