What Alums of Our Program Say

The
cohort model and the size of
classes allowed me to grow with my classmates.
It was academically challenging, taught me to think,
globally,
critically, especially SWK 316 SWK 402/403 and SWK 406. The
curriculum laid a foundation for me for effective practice that I can
now see and use in my job. BSW '07 |

It
seems to me that there have been quite
a few
American Indian students in the social work program at
Augsburg. I
would like to encourage more Indian students and students of color to
consider Augsburg.

I
liked the BSW program because it stretched me.
SWK 257: "Exploring Human Services", the entry-level social work
course, exposed me to all different types of social work and real life
experiences. BSW '02, MSW '05

Social
work at Augsburg played a big role in my
life. Growing up in poverty my family never had the
opportunity to
receive a formal education. The Social Work Department at Augsburg
changed all that for me. When I entered the program and worked with the
staff, they gave me outstanding support and encouragement. They taught
me to believe that no matter how difficult life or environment you live
in is, that's not an excuse to not reach for your goals and succeed.

I
just wanted to send you guys a note giving an
update on where my wonderful social work education at Augsburg has
gotten me. I passed the licensing exam shortly after graduation. I had
two interviews that week, and got both jobs. I now am a contracted case
manager in the DD unit - where my internship was! Case management is a
lot to take in at once, but I really enjoy it. And then this fall I
start my masters program... busy, busy. BSW '05
