Tech Desk/Student Technology - AugNet Accounts
Your key to online services at Augsburg
An AugNet account allows students to access Augsburg technology resources. Each AugNet account includes an Augsburg e-mail address and file storage space (including a web site). AugNet accounts also provide access to the online campus directory, the course management system, and campus computers.
New AugNet accounts
AugNet accounts are created automatically for newly registered students in all Augsburg programs. Registration for courses is a pre-requisite for obtaining an AugNet account for any student who does not already have an account. The Enrollment Center (or advisors and/or program coordinators within some graduate programs) can assist students with the registration process.
Accounts are created every Wednesday for students who registered during the previous week. (Account creation for a given term does not begin until 6 weeks prior to the start of that term). Students may activate their account online any time after the account is created. Please visit the Account Activation page for further details about this process.
Changing your password
You may change your password at any time using the online password change utility on the Inside Augsburg web site. (This utility requires you to know your current password). Click here for a step-by-step description of the process.
Students who have forgotten their AugNet password may have their password reset by TechDesk staff.
- In person: bring a photo ID to the TechDesk in room 104 in Lindell Library, any time during TechDesk hours.
- Over the phone: call the TechDesk at 612-330-1400 and ask to speak with a manager. She will verify some security information and provide you with a new password. If a manager is not available when you call, provide your contact information and a manager will call you back when they become available.
Password resets are not available via e-mail. This is because we must verify your identity before providing you with a password to your account, and e-mail is not a secure way to transmit your personal information.
Changing your username
You may request a change to your AugNet username when:
- your legal name changes and you have completed an official name change with the Enrollment Center, or
- you are receiving harassing emails and have reported it to Augsburg College's Department of Public Safety.
Requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis; not all requests may be granted. To request a username change, download a Username Change Request form (PDF file). Submit your completed request form to the TechDesk using the contact info at the bottom of the form.
Account expiration and deletion
AugNet accounts are provided for all students currently enrolled in at least one class in an Augsburg undergraduate, WEC or graduate program. Inactive AugNet accounts will be deleted periodically throughout the year. An account will be marked as eligible for deletion when:
- an undergraduate, WEC, or graduate student has not registered for a class for one (1) year, which is defined as two consecutive semesters or three consecutive trimesters,
- the student has officially withdrawn from the college, or
- the student has graduated from Augsburg.
To request that your AugNet account be deleted immediately if you no longer plan to take courses at Augsburg, or if you believe your account should have already been deleted, download and submit a Request for Account Deletion (PDF file).
When an account has been marked for deletion, the student will receive an e-mail notification at least two weeks prior to deletion. The notification will contain instructions about how to request the account be kept open in case of unusual circumstances. When the account is deleted, the student will lose all access to any service which requires an Augsburg username and password (i.e. Webmail, Records & Registration, the online directory, moodle, library databases, use of the computer labs), and all files, web pages, e-mail messages and address books stored on the AugNet servers will be permanently deleted.
Students who are graduating are encouraged to set up an alternate e-mail account and to make use of that alternate e-mail address on any correspondence, resume or application that may require a more permanent e-mail address. One such option would be to sign up for the "E-mail for Life" service offered by the office of Alumni Relations (see information below). Also see our checklist for graduates to help you transition away from your AugNet account after commencement.
Alumni E-mail for Life
Alumni Relations is happy to announce a new e-mail service for our alumni ("E-mail for Life"). Please contact Alumni Relations at alumni@augsburg.edu to request an account. This is a complimentary service provided to all our Alumni.
