Tech Desk/Student Technology - Spam Filter Options

Reducing Unwanted E-mail

Augsburg uses a campus-wide Spam filter to reduce the amount of unwanted e-mail that is delivered to Augsburg addresses.  By default, e-mail is sent through this filter.

You can change your Spam filter settings if you would like to "opt-out" of this campus-wide filtering.

1. Login to the Inside Augsburg page
Login to the Inside Augsburg page by entering your AugNet username and password in the boxes on the left and clicking "login".

2. Go to E-mail Account Configuration
Now that you are logged in, click on "Account Utilities" under "AugNet Services". When the menu expands, choose "E-mail Account Configuration".

5. Choose the appropriate level of Spam Filtering
Choose one of three options by clicking the radio button to the left of the desired option, and then clicking the Set Spam-Scanning Level button.

Descriptions of the three options are below.
 Spam filter options

To help you decide which option is best for you, here are descriptions of what the various options mean.
  • Option 1: Ignore server-side spam filtering (Opt Out)

This option allows ALL email sent to your account to go directly to your INBOX without any filtering.

  • Option 2: Mark and send Spam to your INBOX (Tag and Deliver)

This option will mark incoming spam messages as spam, but will still pass the messages onto your inbox. This will give you a visual queue that a message has been marked as spam. This is helpful to be able to quickly sort through your spam messages all at once.

Here is an example of a Subject line from a message marked as spam using Tag and Deliver:

  • Option 3: BLock spam from your INBOX (Spam Filter - Recommended)

This option will turn on Spam Filtering for your Augsburg Email account. When the servers identify messages as spam, they will be removed from your email account before they make it to your inbox. This is the best option for most people who receive a lot of spam messages or are concerned about seeing the content of some offensive spam messages.
