Composing a new message

The "Compose" button in Webmail

To begin a new e-mail message, click the "Compose" button at the top of the Webmail screen.

This will open a new window for composing your message.

The "Compose Message" screen in WebmailAt the top of the Compose window are the standard fields for entering recipient addresses and a subject line. There are three types of recipients you can add to a message:

  • To: All recipient addresses in this field will receive a copy of the message. These recipients are considered primary recipients.
  • Cc: All recipient addresses in this field will receive a copy of the message, and all other recipients can see that they have received a copy. This is like sending a "carbon copy" of a letter to someone who should see the message but who is not the person to whom the letter is addressed.
  • Bcc: All recipient addresses in this field (which you can add using the button on the left-hand side) will receive a copy of the message. No other recipients will be able to see that these individuals have received a copy. This is like sending a "carbon copy", except that it is a "blind" copy since no other recipients know about the Bcc'ed individual.

Along the left-hand side are buttons for various message options, including adding attachments, saving a draft of your message, and checking the spelling in your message.

The message composition screen includes some formatting tools you can use to customize the body of your message with bold type, different colors, and different fonts.

"send" button in Webmail

When you are finished with your message, click the "Send" button on the left-hand side to send your message.
