Financial Aid

Financial Aid for Undocumented Students

Knowing what your financial aid and out-of-pocket costs are will help you and your family make informed decisions about the available options and steps you need to take in order to afford your college education.

TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID

1) Augsburg Financial Aid for DREAMers

Effective March 2015, Augsburg increased its institutional award amount through Augsburg scholarships and grants for incoming first-year and transfer students enrolled in the DAY program.

Awards of $26,500 will be made automatically for students starting in the fall of 2020. This change was intentionally made to reduce the financial gap left by the ineligibility of undocumented students to access federal funds for their higher education.

2) MN Dream Act State Grant

On May 2013, the state of Minnesota passed the MN Dream Act which provides state financial aid to undocumented students who meet the state of Minnesota residency requirements.

Applications for the MN Dream Act State Grant are processed and awarded by the MN Office of Higher Education. For questions about the status of your MN Dream Act application, please contact:

3) Private Scholarships

The following are examples of private scholarships that undocumented students at Augsburg University have been awarded in the last few years and which you are encouraged to apply to:

4) Loans

Undocumented students who are residents of the state of Minnesota and have a co-signor who is a U.S. citizen who meets the eligibility requirements can apply for this long-term, low-interest loan. Complete information is available online at:

5) Emergency Funds

Emergency funds are available for undocumented and DACA students. This fund is designed to remove barriers that may impede students from graduating from Augsburg. Funds may be used for immigration related fees such as attorney consultations, DACA renewals etc. Funds may also be used for medical expenses, text books, groceries, etc. To see if you are eligible for emergency funds, please contact Ruby Murillo at murillo@augsburg.edu

PAYMENT PLANS

Sometimes, making one payment for the remaining cost of the semester is not possible. Therefore, Augsburg University offers a series of payment plans that allow you to make manageable payments and utilize benefits such as military and employer tuition benefits.

FINANCIAL AID APPOINTMENTS

The office of Student Financial Services is available to assist you with your financial aid questions. After you have been accepted to Augsburg, you can set up an appointment with a financial aid counselor by e-mailing studentfinances@augsburg.edu, Subject: Augsburg for DREAMers.
