Updating Department Inside Augsburg Pages, Social Media, and Engage Blogs

The new social media profile photos are designed to fit in Twitter and Facebook, and can be used for other social media, as well. They can be downloaded on the Style Guidelines page.

We’re getting so close to September 1 when we officially will be known as “Augsburg University!”  With that in mind, now is the time to block time on your calendar to update your department’s Inside Augsburg pages, Engage Blogs, and department social media accounts.

To help with the transition of your department’s social media accounts, MarComm staff has developed some branded profile and cover photos designed for use on Facebook and Twitter, but also appropriate for other social media platforms, too.

We’re asking that official academic and staff departments, and chartered student organizations, select from among these profile and cover photos to launch your official social media accounts as Augsburg University. We hope to kick off the new academic year with a unified show of force around our branded images. Doing so will reinforce to our public audiences — prospective students and their families, alumni, corporate and foundation partners, and lawmakers — that we are a cohesive, unified community.

MarComm staff already converted top-tier, official social media accounts held by Augsburg. This work was done in advance of other departments to understand any kinks in the changes and so that if your department needs assistance, we are more readily available to help you.

MarComm staff will be available to design customized profile photos for social media. Details are below.

Here are steps your department should take to update its social media accounts beginning August 28:

1. Revisit the Augsburg University Name Change Update Post from May 25, 2017

Revisit the Augsburg University Name Change Update Post from May 25, 2017, particularly the sections titled “Managing Your Department Websites and/or Blogs” and “Updating Your Social Media Accounts.” This post provides a useful overview of information related to these tasks.

2. Download the Master Task Tracker

If you haven’t already, download the “Master Task Tracker” that was provided in a departmental email in early- and mid-July and that is available for download. This document provides a good overview of the things each academic and administrative department must complete. It also includes helpful tips and links to information for how to change your department’s social media sites.

Please follow the guidelines in the Master Task Tracker as they relate to social media and departmental Inside Augsburg and Engage Blogs.

3. Be Sure to Follow the Augsburg University Social Media Policy

Augsburg has an official social media policy that is part of the University’s employee handbook. You can learn more about the policy on the News and Media site.

We’d especially like to reinforce the importance of working with your LFC to ensure the LFC has the names, addresses, email addresses, and passwords affiliated with all your department’s social media accounts. This is critical to Augsburg University because it allows Augsburg to remove individual administrators from the site if they leave Augsburg, thereby retaining the integrity of the page and ability by others to continue to use the page going forward. If you have a social media site that already exists, please contact your LFC. Your LFC will request the email address associated with the site and the password. In the context of Facebook, your LFC will request he/she is made an administrator.

4. Profile Photos, Cover Photos

Academic and staff departments, and chartered student organizations, should update their official social media profile and cover photos to reflect Augsburg’s new identity and brand.

Download images for Twitter and Facebook on the Style Guidelines page on Inside Augsburg. As mentioned earlier, presenting a unified look as we kick off shared identity as Augsburg University will have a greater impact among our audiences.

For Athletic Teams: Please contact Don Stoner in Athletics for a branded version of the Auggie Eagle Spirit Mark designed for our sports teams. Consider refreshing your social media cover photos with images of your team in action!

Customized Images: MarComm design staff will customize an image for your social media profile photos. These customized images will be appropriately branded by the University and for your department and/or team and/or chartered student organization. Use the Augsburg University Social Media Profile Image Request form to get yours.

5. Help is Available, But Please Give it A Whirl on Your Own!

MarComm staff encourages you to seek to implement your department’s social media changes on your own and using the help instructions available through the Master Task Tracker. Of course if, after trying things on your own, you find you are stuck, please contact us or your LFC.
