Meet the Tutors

Professor Kathy Swanson Dr. Kathy Swanson created the Writing Lab at Augsburg College. She is in charge of all lab operations and tutor training. Dr. Swanson teaches courses in writing and literature; her specific interests and research center around gender and language, composition theory and practice, and women writers of detective fiction. A former Peace Corps volunteer teacher in Thailand, Kathy Swanson speaks Thai and teaches a course for Augsburg students in Thailand every other May. She is very proud of the tutors and the service to Augsburg students (averaging over 2,000 session each year) they provide. |

Paul Hallgren is a senior English and Philosophy major. He enjoys reading, playing sports, and cleaning. One of these is false. |

Will Trembley is a super senior writing lab tutor. He is an English literature major who enjoys reading the ancient words of those old, dead guys. He loves to read and watch movies and adventure. His life goal is to climb every mountain and, if time permits, ford every stream. His ideal career is superhero. |

Joe Vokracka is a junior who, last summer while living among the animals in the wilds on the side of a mountain, heard a call, a call that hit him directly in the soul, a call to help his fellow students fix their papers. All cleaned up and regaining the knowledge to live in civilized society, Joe is ready to go on this wondrous writing adventure with you. |

Dalia Teodonno is a senior from Italy, studying English with an emphasis in media writing. She is still in the process of changing her mind on major every other week but will definitely graduate with a Bachelor’s degree from the English (and maybe Psychology) department. This is her second semester working at the Writing Lab, a job that she loves and hopes will push her toward a career in book/publication editing. |

Chelsey Waala is a third year Secondary Education/Communication Arts and Literature major hoping to minor in theatre and German. Chelsey enjoys classic films, cooking, and cheering for the Green Bay Packers. After graduation, she hopes to inspire high school students to love reading, to excel at writing, and thoroughly to enjoy the learning experience. |

Emily Rutten is in her third year at Augsburg. She is working toward a biological psychology major. She enjoys music, playing with her dog, reading, and hanging out with her awesome roommates! |

Lesley Becker is a junior and is in her second year at Augsburg, having transferred from a community college. This is her second semester at the Writing Lab. Besides her interest in writing and reading, she also enjoys cinema, photography, and her fat cat Oliver. |

Sonja Blackstone Kjerland is a junior, majoring in Secondary Education/English. This is her first year as a tutor. In her free time she walks to and from school, studies a lot, and finds time to do yoga. She is super excited to get her “writing lab chops” this semester by working with all of you in the lab! |

Brad St. Aubin is in his second year in the Writing Lab. He hasn’t declared a major yet, but he is leaning towards psychology. He is a Harry Potter and Hunger Games super fan and tries to read as much as he can. His other interests include playing video games and spending long hours on stumbleupon.com. |

Brid Henry is in her first year at Augsburg and could not be more excited about working in the Lab. She plans on majoring in theatre and spends her time watching grainy versions of plays on YouTube when she’s not pretending to be in them. |
